I was just thinking how there are probably quite a few news articles from during I'd Do Anything that were never put up here. So maybe we could try and collect them together and put them in here? :?:

To start - I just found this and I don't think I've ever seen this one before:
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_q ... tBody;col1

Here's what it says for those who can't be bothered to click the link: :14:

Sunday Mirror, April 13th 2008

STRUTTING down the red carpet with Hollywood heart throb George Clooney is every teenage girl's dream but for Nancy hopeful Niamh Perry it became reality.

Hanging off the arm of Hollywood's most eligible bachelor last week was the Bangor teenager's biggest taste of stardom yet.

But family and friends in Northern Ireland are hoping it is a life she will get the chance to live full-time as she goes up against the public vote again tonight in the BBC talent search I'd Do Anything.

"I'm in a 'Nancy bubble'," laughed Niamh. "But I don't want it to burst just yet."

Such is the non-stop whirlwind of performing in the TV show that the modest, down-toearth teen seems oblivious to the fact in that red carpet moment she became the envy of women everywhere.

"He's lovely," she said of George, who the final 10 gathered with at the premiere of his new film Leatherheads in London.

But tell us something we don't know Niamh!

"He was really nice to all of us. We had to do some press stuff with him.

"He was talking to us about the competition and what we were doing and wished us luck.

"It was weird to get recognised at a film premiere by some of the members of the public - it was surreal."

The striking beauty got another glimpse of the A-list lifestyle on Friday when all the Nancys took part in a glossy photoshoot for Hello! magazine.

Fresh from posing for the camera and with her red carpet appearance already becoming a hazy memory, Niamh isn't letting the taste of the showbiz life go to her head.

She said humbly: "The show's amazing it's the best thing that has ever happened to me. It sounds really cheesy but it's such a life changing experience and I'm so privileged to be here."

Despite not being home for more than five weeks Niamh doesn't get a chance to get homesick as two other I'd Do Anything contenders also hail from Northern Ireland.

Belfast's Rachel Tucker is vying for the same coveted role and 12- year-old Derry lad Gareth Borrow has his sights set on the part of Oliver.

And proving just what a small world it is Niamh revealed starring in I'd Do Anything wasn't the first time she had shared a stage with young Gareth.

"I knew I knew him from somewhere - we actually performed together at the Millennium Forum in Derry in Guys and Dolls production last August.

"Gareth was playing Fat Sam and I was playing Adelaide. He's adorable and I think he's really loving every moment as well."

And the Irish accents don't stop there with Niamh rooming with Co Kerry Nancy hopeful Jessie Buckley.

"There's a couple of Irish jokes going on there," laughs the Bangor songstress of the going-ons in the Nancy house. You might think that with 10 women all competing for the same part living and working together in such close quarters there would be cat fights galore. But the schoolgirl insisted the atmosphere in the house is friendly.

"Honestly, it is the best group of people ever. I think everyone is surprised at just how well we are getting on. I don't know whether it is obvious but I know when the girls I am close to on the live show get through you are so chuffed for them even though you want your own name called out.

"It is kind of like we are all sisters, we are all in for the same thing but we are there for each other at the same time."

When the A-level student took to the stage last night to perform this week's music and films theme she knew only too well the gruelling hours of rehearsals behind bringing her performance to the stage and screen.

"We do about 12 hours of rehearsal a day, so it is quite hectic.

"But we are all involved in something we are so passionate about, so when you up to quite late at night or have to get up really early in the morning, it is for something you love so you don't feel so bad."

Speaking of coping with possible stage-fright on the Saturday night show being beamed into millions of homes she added: "You feed off your nerves and you completely forget it is a live show.

"Anyone in the audience, including my mum and dad, would say it is over in a blink of the eye and it doesn't seem like an hour of your life has gone by.

"It's quite a whirlwind of emotions and then you are waiting for the results show."

Singing from the tender age of eight it was a trip to the Grand Opera House in Belfast which set Niamh's sights on stardom.

She revealed: "When I was 11 I went to see Whistle Down The Wind in the Opera House. As soon as I saw that I thought, 'I so want to do that when I'm older', and it hasn't changed since."

Although admitting there isn't a great amount of musical theatre "back home" Niamh credits getting so far in the competition and her dazzling performances to her involvement with Northern Ireland charity, Music Theatre 4 Youth.

"I've been really fortunate. I've been with the Master Stage School in Bangor since I was 11 and Music Theatre 4 Youth since 2005.

"That is the reason I'm here as the training I received there was second to none and it really helped me through."

Niamh's die-hard cheering squad of mum Zaron and dad Liam were given a boost last night when they were joined by five of Niamh's school pals and her sister Ciara, 21, who's at University in Paris.

"I can't thank everyone enough who've been supporting me," she said.

Niamh, who studies Music and Theatre at Our Lady's & St Patrick's College Knock, hopes to put her studies on hold.

She said: "I could resit my A-levels but I could never get this experience again."

NIAMH fact file

MOST TERRIF YING MOMENT SO FAR?

"Sharing the stage with rats in last week's performance. It's the only thing I'm really scared of. They were really well trained but it is still a rat."

IDEAL ROLE?

"Apart from Nancy - Eponine in Les Miserables."

IDEAL BILL SYKES?

"Rumour has it it could be James Nesbitt, but anyone hot. But not George Clooney - he's a bit too old. Someone rough and rugged. I don't like clean-cut posh boys."

FILM IDOLS?

"Audrey Hepburn, Julia Roberts and Dame Judi Dench."

SINGLE or ATTACHED?

"I'm single."

LIFE AFTER THE OUTCOME OF 'I'D DO ANYTHING'?

"Any job involved in media would be like a dream. To say you would love to be in films would be a huge ask. But anything in musical theatre or TV would be amazing."

SHE'D DO ANYTHING..

Give Niamh your vote on the I'd Do Anything show on BBC 1 tonight at 7.30pm

Nice one Ginger!

It might be worth trying the archives of the Belfast Telegraph and News Letter for other Niamh stories. Both papers featured Niamh & Rachel quite a bit, being local girls made good and I found several great Rachel articles there for the blog.

Interesting news about 'The Cry' as well. Niamh does get involved in some fascinating projects. Anyone going?

Guess what? I've just discovered my school's lovely subscription to one of those websites that basically archives newspaper articles! ::)
It's made for some wonderful detours from my homework and I'm now collecting together all the Niamh articles that aren't up here  I'll start putting them up in reverse chronological order (because that's the order the site puts them in). Sorry if you've seen some of them before, but there're definitely a good few which I hadn't seen :14:

Here are a couple mentions from the edinburgh fringe:

Evening News – Scotland 22 August:

TWO of the Capital's best known amateur theatre companies were celebrating yesterday after winning Evening News Drama Awards for Best Musical and Best Play, on the 2008 Fringe.

Members of Forth Children's Theatre were left shocked and elated when, in their 30th anniversary year, they were presented with the inaugural Evening News Drama Award for Best Musical by BBC I'd Do Anything star, Niamh Perry, for their production of Jekyll and Hyde.

Director Claire Stewart said: "This play has been a total challenge for the kids as we're used to doing bright, happy-clappy musical numbers, but this year we wanted to explore something more dark."

Niamh said: "Amateur dramatics is where most of us start out. I was about 12 when I did my first amateur shows with the McMasters Stage School and Music Theatre for Youth.

"It's my first time at the Festival and I've seen a whole range of shows but I honestly couldn't tell you which were amateur and which were professional. They were all so good."

Evening News – Scotland 15 August:

After the phenomenal success of last year's inaugural event - which was won by local musical theatre company Tempo with their production of Spend, Spend, Spend - this year's ceremony will be even bigger and better, with a second award up for grabs. Next Thursday, in the Library Bar of the Gilded Balloon, Teviot, legendary Bullseye gameshow host Jim Bowen and I'd Do Anything contender Niamh Perry will present the awards for Best Play and Best Musical.

Perry, who is starring in the world premiere of Only The Brave at the George Square Theatre throughout the Fringe, will present the award for Best Musical.

She says, "I'm delighted and honoured to be asked to present the award for the Best Musical at this year's ENDAs.
"I've always been a huge fan of musicals and I'm so pleased they are enjoying such success across the country."

Daily Mirror 20 May:

NANCY reject Niamh Perry flew home last night and vowed she was more determined than ever to make it in the West End.

A-level student Niamh, 17, said she had made great contacts within the industry during her time in London on BBC's I'd Do Anything.

She blasted critics who had dismissed her as being young and fragile and said that once her exams were behind her she would redouble her efforts to launch a career in drama.

Niamh said the whole experience of living away from her family in London had toughened her up a lot and she would defy her critics.

Speaking as she prepared to leave London and fly back to Bangor, Co Down, the defiant young student said: "Yes this is a knock-back but I still very much want a career on stage and I am determined to do so.

"I may not have won the role as Nancy and I really could not have won because of the constant criticism where people referred to my age and called me fragile.

"Even if I had got the part criticisms like this would have continued to haunt me but those who have dismissed me as fragile really don't know me at all.

"I really want this as a career and I am prepared." Niamh - who is now backing Belfast hopeful Rachel Tucker, 26, to win the coveted lead role as Nancy - said she was delighted an industry veteran such as Andrew Lloyd Webber had seen her potential.

On Saturday's show the five remaining Nancy hopefuls battling for four places in the semi-final were asked to sing Another Suitcase In Another Hall from Evita. And although Niamh lost, Andrew Lloyd Webber told her: "If I was casting Evita, I would seriously think of you for that role."

He adding that he wouldn't be surprised if she was up for a leading role by the time she hit 20.

Niamh said: "It was wonderful to have someone like Andrew Lloyd Webber say I could be a leading lady in the next couple of years and comments like that mean so much to me.

"Since I have lived on my own here for this show I have really grown up and I have got a lot stronger already.

"I have realised that if I want to make a career in this industry, which I very much want to do, then I have to toughen up because in this industry criticism is part and parcel of life and I now know that I can handle it." Niamh's dad Liam said he was "very proud" of his daughter - who has two A-levels to sit on Thursday and is cramming in as much last-minute revision as possible.

He added: "This has been a great adventure for her."

The starlet has been revising in between filming and rehearsing while on the show and even got some revision done on the plane journey back home.

Niamh said: "I want to get my A-levels out of the way as something to fall back on and hopefully they will go OK but I have a lot of catching up to do with my work.

"I'll still be following the competition and, to be honest, any one of the four remaining girls could win it. But I think Rachel was great and I have to support my girl from back home to win."

Daily Mirror 17 May:

EXCLUSIVE ULSTER GIRLS GO FOR GLORY NANCY HOPEFUL 'SO UNIQUE'

BLUE Peter presenter Zoe Salmon has called Nancy starlet Niamh Perry the most exciting young talent to come out of Northern Ireland in the last decade.

The children's TV star said Niamh's future is "wide open" after watching her perform on Andrew Lloyd Webber's Saturday night show I'd Do Anything.

Zoe, 28, who also starred in Hotel Babylon, said: "Niamh obviously has a lot of success to look forward to.

"She has it all in front of her. I was Miss Northern Ireland when I was 19 and look where I am now, so Niamh can be anything she wants to be.

"Our country hasn't had a raw talent like Niamh's in 10 years. The future is so bright for her.

"She looks fantastic, she is beautiful, she has such a lot of talent and a unique style. I have no doubt that if she wants to succeed in the West End she will do just that.

"And it is amazing that she is going to go back and do her A-levels. Making a decision like that shows her maturity."

BBC1's Zoe, who has presented the channel's flag ship children's show for the last four years, backed 17-year-old Niamh after watching her perform every week.
The girls, who both come from Bangor in Co Down, have never met. But it is something which the Comic Relief star aims to put right at the first opportunity. Zoe said: "I have never met her. There are a few years between us but I want to meet her and I know we would get on because we both come from the same town."

Niamh goes into tonight's show after being saved by Lord Webber in last week's sing-off.
She said: "I've got a good song this week and I'm hoping to show aggression and a bit of strength.

"Andrew said I could redefine the role so that's what I want to do."

I saw a small mention of Niamh on a Cancer Research UK page, which I've never come across before - although I'm not sure if it's been posted here already:

http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/health ... paignnews/

It's really short, but there's a (miniscule) pic of Niamh being leggy  she looks lovely, as usual.

Niamh Perry, one of the stars of TV series 'I’d Do Anything', poses for a photo shoot in Northern Ireland to warn the public of the dangers of topping up summer tans on a sunbed.

But the strange thing is, the page was apparently last updated september 06, but Niamh was in IDA during spring/summer of 2008! How does that work? Did they forecast her being in IDA?
