How about having a place to post reviews of shows we see?

The last show I saw was Cabaret with Julian Clary as the EmCee. It was brilliant and Julian (who I love  ) and Amy Nuttall who played Sally were fab. I'm sure it's still good but Julian is no longer in the show and I think Amy has moved on as well.

Next one for me is Hairspray in mid-June - my birthday treat to myself.

I've seen Wicked and Dirty Dancing in the West End

In July, going to see Sound Of Music (Summer Strallen!! :D), High School Musical and Hairspray (Ben... :D)

Then if Sammy wins I'm going to see Oliver! and if Niamh gets any roles I'm going to see them too lol. My mum mightn't be too pleased about going to see Sound Of Music AGAIN haha

Saw a couple of things on school trips but I've only really seen Joseph with Lee Mead and it was great. Not as serious as I thought. It was like a comedy. :)

No-one else in my family likes musicals but we see them sometimes on school trips. Last year we seen Blood Brothers and Oliver! in Belfast. The Nancy in Oliver was brilliant, way better than some of the final 12, but she was only 15/16 so she was a year too young to audition for I'd Do Anything.

I see musicals quite often, I love them to pieces! I saw Les Mis yesterday for the 14th time  . But that's really all I spend my money on, I never buy clothes, magazines or CDs, pretty much only theatre tickets. Plus I live in London so I can easily get to the West End.

And Amy - so a really young Nancy did work then! Was she anything like any of the Nancys on the show?

She was probably most similar to Sam, better to be honest. Everyone I know who saw that play has said she likely would have got through to the final 12 if she was old enough. That girl was only 2/3 years older than the Oliver, so a younger Nancy can pull off the role very well. :)

I was just thinking about what I've seen... and realised I really haven't seen a professional company musical in ages, and I haven't seen one in the West End. That needs to be changed soon!! ;) Well I did see STOMP in the West End, which was absolutely amazing, but isn't really a musical.
However, a good friend of mine is in an amateur operatic society, so I usually go to see their shows, which are actually a really high standard.
Last Christmas they did Titanic the Musical, which I wasn't really sure about, but went along to see anyway to support my friend. I'm so glad I did, because it was amazing! It's completely different from the film, and instead of focusing on what actually happened, it focuses on several characters, including the captain, designer, owner, and passengers from all classes. It also looks at the issue of who was to blame. They had the stage set very simply, with no scenery and too high platforms on either side of the stage. They then had the bridge and the telegram(?) room that they could wheel on and they used tables and other props. They also had a projector screen at the back, projecting images of the ship, which worked surprisingly well and actually added alot to the show. The show had me nearly crying even in the first scene, I think it was probably the lines "Let all our children's children know/ That this day long ago/ We dreamt of them/ And came aboard this ship!" that really nearly got me... Anyways, loads of really top class acting, great music and convinsing dialogue, my friend appears as the bell boy in a bright blue costume and I have to stifle a laugh :p and finally we arrive at the second seen and the ship is sinking. An elderly couple sing of their long-lasting love for each other and vow to stay together on the sinking ship ("Still") and a mother reassures her young son that he will see his father again soon ("To the Lifeboats") and I'm blubbing like a baby. It's such a human musical and so emotional, but still respectful of the people who lost their lives, it was stunning. The only thing missing was a chance for the cast to take a curtain call and us to be able to applaud the fantastic acting, as the show ended with the poignant image of a toy boat in a spotlight, among the cast-off blankets of the survivers.

I really really wanted to see a production of Titanic that one of my favourite actors was in... except that production was in Australia :frusty:

I'm seeing Candide pretty soon, and have just booked tickets to see Les Mis again! :D
