Sutton Foster is amazing. That's all there is to it I'm sure you won't be surprised when I tell she's a broadway performer, I haven't seen her live but she's originated the leads in a number of broadway shows and won the tony award a few years ago for one of them. Something from one of her *ahem* more ridiculous shows (take a look at 1:30!): http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=um2iBzbUY0Y
I'd be lying if I said I even knew what 'human' is... is it a song?

That Sutton Foster video is hilarious. I like the fact she doesn't seem to have a show off type voice. She seems very good.
Oh. My. God. You're entering dangerous territory there Zippy. Don't let Ricky teach you on 'popular' music. You'll be listening to Eurovision next! I don't know why you mentioned the chart place Dick, got nothing to do with quality. Though saying that, The Killers are ok. Probably not in my top 15 bands though. Between 15-20 as i thought their second album was very disappointing apart from 3 or 4 songs. Nevermind The Killers, you need a bit of Travis loving! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=D27bafb7k ... re=related

I have over 140 albums with music from every decade since the 60s and been to 14 concerts in 2 years with 3 more next month. And you, Ricky?
Did you end up buying Rockferry's re-release Dick? Looks like a lot did. Dropped down into the 30s in the album chart before the re-release. *shakes head* So silly. The re-release took its sales past Travis' The Invisible Band. Cheating, I say cheating! Good songs. Wonder if she'll release another single? Live And Let Die next month. I can hear her singing it. Could be great!

Wow. I mean, wow. That might just be the most shallow, narrow minded thing you've ever said, Ricky. And that's saying something! Zippy, you want to trust someone who dismisses a whole decade of music just like that? Unbelievable. You've not heard of The Beatles Ricky? The Who? You must love a bit of Motown. Who doesn't love Motown? And being a Duffy fan I'd have thought you'd have liked a lot of 60s stuff. David Bowie started in the 60s. Unbelievable. For your own sake Ricky, open your mind to the world, it's a beautiful place.
She still has a million or so to go to beat The Man Who though which must be close to 3,000,000 UK sales now. It passed the 2,700,000 mark 6 years ago. I don't think we'll get another single. She's released 5 now.
Oh and I'm 21 Dickmeister. Not as old as some people on here.

You want to test my music knowledge?! The Who were around in the 70s yes Ricky but formed in about '62 or '63 and released 3, maybe 4 albums in the 60s. They were one of the biggest bands in the world in the 60s. The Beatles split up in 1970! The Rolling Stones? Pink Floyd? Mmm? Music was great in the 60s. And 70s. And 80s (though less so in my opinion). Great stuff in the 90s and obviously the 00s. Explore a bit Ricky. You'll be surprised.
I love watching music documentaries. Mostly on the BBC. They're really interesting.

Mmm... Radiohead, Travis, Oasis. Yes.
Every decade has good music and every decade has bad music. I used to like Steps. Then in 2001 I heard Sing. Then I heard Side. Then I heard Flowers In The Window and in April 2002 in Dawlish, Devon, I told my Mum I wanted to go to Woolworths to buy Travis' album. Then Dad came over and said 'oh, Travis? More grown up music.' And we went into Woolworths and went to the CD section. I found The Invisible Band. I was about to pick it up and then I saw another one, The Man Who. I looked at the track listings and realized The Invisible Band was the newest. Over the next week, driving around Devon (my Dad driving not me ) I fell in love with Travis. 6 months later I bought The Man Who and realised Turn was a Travis song. Great moment. I'd always LOVED the song but never knew it was Travis. *sigh* I remember that day nearly 7 years ago in Woolworths SOOOO clearly. It's like my brain knew it was a moment to remember. By the way, once we got home from holiday in Devon I actually threw my Steps CDs away. Travis was the first proper band I liked which is one reason why they mean so much I suppose. Sorry. Is anyone still reading? Sorry to bore you all, but that's my Travis story.

Oooh I loves Step's 5,6,7,8 and all of the S Club 7's songs and some of Atomic Kitten's too, although they only ever did covers and they're forever lipsyncing live. The current music trend I see around my friends are something along the lines of heavy guitar and bass, and screaming vocalists at an eardrum-shattering volume :O lol

That's the first stage Kat. As soon as you discover a good band you'll have forgotten them. I used to enjoy both S Club and sort of Atomin Kitten but I think that was around the time I discovered Travis.
I don't know what your friends are listening to! I love a bit of Green Day but I wouldn't say many of my favourite bands were loud. The biggest selling stuff this year is Duffy, Take That, Kings Of Leon, Coldplay... I wouldn't consider any of them 'heavy guitar'.

Glad you liked the Sutton Foster video Ben! She's right near the top on my list of performers I want to see live. And what do you mean 'not a show off type voice'? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JLDq-2e2JC0 (she can do dramatic acting as well but I'm keeping in mind that you prefer upbeat stuff)
I honestly think that if it was possible to teach me about 'popular' music my friends at school would have done it by now. I'm just a lost case
But I don't see anything at all wrong with older music, one of my favourite songs in the world is 'Old Man River' which was written in the late 20s.

Not able to watch that video right now. I meant it as a compliment. Leona Lewis ruined Run by Snow Patrol because she warbled all over it. That's what I meant. Withering and wavering your voice over 1 syllable. It's annoying.
See you didn't click on either the Coldplay or Travis video in my last post. Very much the opposite to upbeat. I like many different songs and styles from many different eras but big, epic ballads are annoying. I prefer something a little more low key like the Travis video in my previous post. Soft, like a pillow.
A lot of people listen to awful music just because it's 'cool' and a lot of people dismiss older music because it's old and uncool and forget how The Beatles made a phenomenal difference in music and created some wonderful songs.
There are some wonderful stuff from before the 60s of course and that's something I need to learn more about. I think I'm quite knowledgable from 60s onwards.
Ricky, was meaning to ask, what year in history is music acceptable to listen to? 1976? Year you were born?

No offense but I'd hate to be like that. Absolutely hate it! You're 23 years old Ricky. Seriously, be a bit more open minded. It's pathetic. Do you watch films from before the 90s? It's sooo shallow it's unbelievable. You're going to hate Duffy's Live And Let Die. It was written in 1973.
I was joking regarding the S Club Juniors.
No. She took all the beauty out of the song.
I'm amazed you're a Leeds fan to be honest. I'd have thought you'd be a Manchester United fan.
Sorry but it's the one thing I'd put into Room 101. People who dismiss stuff so easily and only take interest in something because it's cool or popular. I love Duffy. I love Coldplay and I have good things to say about Take That but I also love The Shins, Guster, Air Traffic...
Just open your eyes and ears to the world. It's been around for a long time. More than 23 years.

I do wonder sometimes if you'll forget Duffy after 2 albums... Because she won't maintain popularity. But if she continues to write great songs, I'll be listening.
You're a nice person Paul, just try to appreciate more. You're missing out on SO MUCH!
Leeds won Dick. Good day for us too though. MK Dons lost, Scunthorpe lost and Oldham too! We are on TV Monday night.

Was there an S Club 7 tv series? :O I remember there being a film about their clones not having belly buttons - not exactly the most original or interesting aspect! But most of their songs were in that film and that was more or less the only reason I watched it
Going out tomorrow with 2 friends for an educational trip :P we're scooting by train to the science and natural history museums, and maybe going sweets-hunting in china town afterwards xD let's hope we don't get lost. I've written down the instructions as to what tube lines and what trains we're getting lol!

Yes. They were from a TV show anyway. It was that that came first. Certainly what brought them fame anyway. Set in Miami or something. May have that wrong.
Have fun tomorrow Kat! Sounds like fun. Can I come?
