It's Rachel's first night tonight in WWRY. Err, in fact it's probably over but I'm sure it went really well. :D Found this in the local paper and thought I'd put it on here. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/enter ... 79746.html

There was this little clip of Rachel as Meat on the Blog. I think she looks cool. :14:

Apparently she was amazing on her opening night! I'm sure she's great in the role, I thought she was fantastic on I'd Do Anything! :D

Hi Guys :hello:

Realise I'm incredibly late with this, but only just noticed the thread. I want to say a big thank you for recognising Rachel in this way.

Having seen Niamh & Rachel together at the Proms, it's obvious there is a real bond between them, perhaps not so obvious during IDA, and of course they obviously had a ball together at Hyde Park the next day as well.

Needless to say, Rachel's opening night has been extensively covered on the blog, with no less than five different reviews and acres of photos at the stage door.

Suffice to say it was one of the best nights of my life (and Andy's!) and when Niamh has her next big opener, I would urge as many of you as possible to go -- it's worth every penny to be there, not only for Niamh herself, but to meet the other fans. In Rachel's case, they were such a lovely bunch of people and we're all planning to do it again in November when Rachel is playing the big role of Scaramouche due to cast holidays.

Thanks again for setting up this thread -- I just love this site! :sunny:

David.

Hi David. Pleased to hear that Rachel is doing so well. I'm sure she'll continue to do so as she's certainly very good. ::)

I saw WWRY on Thursday. I’m a bit wary of ‘jukebox’ musicals and can’t say I’m a Ben Elton fan, but as it’s Queen and it’s got Rachel in it…

As a story it’s pretty thin but there’s enough drama and humour to keep it rolling between songs, and it’s well-acted. Rachel (Meat) and Ian Carlyle (Brit) stand out, and Rachel’s solo/lead is the highlight of the first half. She is physically surprisingly small (though I saw her at the Proms I only noticed that she’s not as tall as Niamh) but her voice and stage presence are anything but. She also plays Scaramouche occasionally, which gives her a bigger role particularly in the second half – I’ll be checking my diary now to see if I’m in London on any of those nights (so much for my initial scepticism). Overall a brilliant & fun performance, and Rachel is impressive – if you like Queen I recommend it.

Incidentally I think Rachel’s contract goes up to August when she gets married.

Thanks Stan. Sounds like a good show, i like Queen. ::) Didn't realise Rachel was getting married either.

Thanks for letting us know what you thought stan! I'm also very against these 'jukebox' musicals, but having seen the show a few months ago, it was definitely worth it if only for Rachel's performance! She is fantastic in the role and I'm definitely going to try and see her in whatever she does next! :D

Thanks for the review Stan -- I fully agree with everything you said.
No doubt that the plot is thin, but the music and the cast are superb and carry the whole show brilliantly.

I've seen Rachel in both roles and trust me if you get a chance to see her as Scaramouche, don't think twice. She performs 'Somebody To Love' solo in the first act and is absolutely incredible. She's on stage for virtually the entire second act and is a joy to watch.
Her next scheduled dates in the big role are Wed 4th March and Sat 7th March.
Also don't forget you can meet Rachel and other cast members at the stage door most nights -- she's one of the friendliest people you'll ever find.

And yes Rachel is getting married in September to her fiance Guy Retallack. He's a theatre director and they met on the set of 'Tommy' several years ago and got engaged on Valentine's Day 2008. So if you want to see Rachel in WWRY I'd recommend going before the end of August as we don't know at this stage if she'll be renewing her contract or moving on to another production.

You can meet the musical's cast after the shows? Is that true for all the musicals? Cos my friends and I are thinking of going to see Wicked next time holiday rolls around and it'll be incredible to meet Kerry Ellis :O :O :O and if I get to go see a Niamh show it'll be the best thing ever to get to meet her afterwards :O

You can tell I've never been to see a musical before, lol

I'm no expert Kat but i'm sure it's the case for a lot of musicals and i'm sure it also depends on the person and also on what day is it. I'm sure some days some performers might see the fans and other days they might not. Same with bands. Some days they stay out for an hour taking photos, signing stuff and chatting, other days they don't. ::)

In my experience, the only time when an actor hadn't come out of the stage door is occasionally after a matinee performance (if an actor is really well known they might sneak out of a seperate door but that's never happened in any show I've seen, probably because even well known, established musical theatre performers are unknown to most of the audience :S ). In my experience they've almost all been friendly and willing to chat for a bit and take photos with other people. Kerry Ellis is lovely (and amazing! If you have the chance to see her in a show, do!) although I have to warn you that the Wicked stage door in particular is known for being possibly the loudest/craziest on the West End, beware of some of Kerry's fans! That's obsessed for you!

Thanks David, I can't make those dates but I'll will check when I next have some time in London. Rachel came over as a really accomplished performer, and as I said I thought she stood out in what was a very good cast. I hadn't thought to go 'round the back after, but I will do next time.
